Luxor African Film Festival (LAFF) is collaborating with Film Independent, in partnership with the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, to produce a four-day Short Film Screenwriting Workshop, led by a U.S. filmmaker

The workshop will be part of the Factory Initiative platform of LAFF and aims to support and promote the creative expression of Egyptian filmmakers through short film projects.  This workshop is open to emerging filmmakers from Egypt with an idea for a short film. Filmmakers selected to participate in the workshop must commit to the full curriculum of the workshop.

Film Independent is a nonprofit arts organization that champions creative independence in visual storytelling and supports a global community of artists who embody diversity, innovation and uniqueness of vision. Film Independent helps filmmakers make their movies, builds an audience for their projects and works to diversify the film industry. Anyone passionate about film can become a Member, whether you are a filmmaker, industry professional or film lover.

Requirement:

1. Nationals or residents of Egypt

2. Sudanese nationals currently residing in Egypt.

3. At least 18 years of age or older at time of application

4. Have at least one produced credit on a short film as a writer

5. Have an idea for a short film that discusses impending issues affecting their community. Priority will be given to projects that discuss issues of youth and women empowerment, diversity and inclusion of marginalized communities, and climate change.
